1. Midlife upgrade Class 72
nt shall conduct a Midlife upgrade of Class 72, and plans to announce a competition for the project within the next months.
Class 72 is a emu (Electrical Multiple Unit). The total of vehicles is 36. Each vehicle consists four coaches, two motor and two trailer.
The trains are the first low floor trains delivered in Norway. All the sets shall be upgraded.
The trains are designed by Pininfarina, produced by AnsaldoBreda and were delivered between 2002 and 2006. Class 72 have now reached half of the programmed life and to keep a modern standard and comfort a midlife upgrade is necessary.
Expected technical information about the systems that will be upgraded is available in appendix 1 “Excerpt from the project “, and appendix 2, “Layout drawings Class 72”.

2. Process of competition
The estimated date for the announced competition is late September 2017. The deadline for submitting applications for participation will be approx. November 2017. Expected award of contract is February 2018. The first train set shall be ready for use in late 2018. nt expects the deliverances to be completed within 2021.
The tender process is expected to be a negotiated procedure in 2 stages with a prequalification. nt intends to initiate contract with one supplier for the project.

3. About Norske tog
Norske tog (nt) is a state-owned limited liability company, and was fissioned from the Norwegian State Railway nsb group from April 2017, as a consequence of the reform of the Norwegian railway sector.
The company has, with a few exceptions, the ownership of all passenger vehicles and locomotives in Norway.
nt’s role in the market is to own and lease out rail vehicles or similar vehicles on equal terms to operators who receive a contract for the operation of passenger train traffic in Norway.
As a result of nt having acquired ownership of all passenger vehicles, the organization will, among other things, be responsible for purchasing new vehicles and midlife upgrades of own existing vehicles.
